Prison Warder Commits Suicide After Affairs With Inmate Was Exposed

BuzzSouthAfrica has confirmed that a prison warder working with the Losperfontein Correctional Center killed herself after her romantic affair with an inmate was spotlighted. Earlier this month, intimate pictures of the jailer and the prisoner circulated on social media platforms. It is said that the circulating pictures inspired the warder to take her own life. From what we gathered, she killed herself on Monday morning and, a suicide case has been opened. Singabakho Nxumalo, the spokesperson of Correctional Services said the department is yet to ascertain how the pictures got to the internet. Nxumalo said: “The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has been made aware of images involving an official and inmate from Losperfontein Correctional Centre, in an intimate position circulating on social media. As this is disturbing and strictly prohibited, the department condemns this type of behaviour in the strongest possible terms. Whilst DCS was busy investigating this matter, we have since learned with shock that the official allegedly appearing on the images has committed suicide.” Commenting, Regional Commissioner of the department, Mandla Mkabela expressed that the suicide incident was unfortunate and sad. Mkabela said the department has dispatched a team of senior managers and its Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) specialists to provide necessary support to the family of the warder. “On behalf of DCS, we want to convey our condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased official,” added Mkabela. It was said that the Department of Correctional Services hired the strippers to entertain the prisoners.
