Zodwa Wabantu said that she was forced to cancel her gig in Zimbabwe because she wanted President Robert Mugabe to state in a letter that she was welcome in the county.

In an interview with TshisaLIVE, Zodwa said that she wanted to hear directly from the president that she was allowed in the country.

Zodwa disappointed many fans when she announced that she would be cancelling the tour.

She admitted to the publication that she was afraid of the country’s president. Zodwa said that she would not go to Zimbabwe unless Mugabe approved.

Zodwa said that despite letting her fans down, she is “better off” in Mzansi.

“I don’t know their motives behind the whole thing or if I will get arrested when I arrive in Zimbabwe. I’m waiting for Mugabe to write a letter saying I am allowed (in the country). If they (the people) are so scared of Mugabe, it is the same with me,” she said.

In September, the president banned the South African performer from Zimbabwe.

Mugabe said that he knew he was upsetting many people when he banned Zodwa from performing in the country.

Speaking at a rally in Binduru, Mugabe said that he disapproved of Zodwa’s brand, which is about wearing revealing clothing and not wearing panties.

“I’m sorry we disappointed many men… You just come without covering your decency. What do you want? Men to see you? We don’t want such,” he said.
